Summary
The students of this course will get a brief introduction into the complex evolution of the systems of international relations in the last five centuries. Modern diplomacy and the corresponding international system is the by-product of a complex trend of interactions of nations, states, diplomacies and interests that have shaped the international status quo and evolved through conflicts, wars and treaties. The ups and downs of that story will be presented through the personalities of kings and diplomats, through the course and results of major wars, through the intricate process of building up and breaking down of coalitions and alliances and the will of Great powers and small nations at peace congresses and conferences. Thus the students will get certain skills and knowledge about international events and the manner in which they can be analyzed.
